MaCari's Story

MaCari Marie Kinney was born March 10, 2008 to Marc and Carri Kinney, two days later the doctor confirmed Trisomy 18. Midway through her pregnancy my sister’s doctor warned her that Trisomy 18 could be possible but my sister decided not to go trough with the tests that would confirm the diagnosis. She was in the second trimester of her pregnancy and the diagnosis would not have changed her decision to go forward with the pregnancy at such a late date. When MaCari was born everything seemed normal although the doctors were concerned about the elongated heels of her feet. I remember hearing my sisters screams through the phone shortly after the doctor gave she and her husband the news…”my baby is going to die, MaCari is going to die” is all I remember hearing. My sister was 37 years old and had wanted another child for some time. We were all so happy she was having a girl since girls were so few in our family. Carri had fantasized about her little girl for so long that the news about her diagnosis just devastated the entire family. For the next few days family and friends kept vigil at the hospital praying for the best but preparing for the worst. Within two weeks MaCari was released from the hospital to her parents. Instead of a joyful return home with their new baby my sister and her husband had to set up hospice care and round the clock nursing care for their infant daughter. Things no parent should have to face. In the beginning we would celebrate MaCari’s birthday every month because a year was just not an option at that time. Over time my sister and her husband have come to accept the diagnosis and try as hard as they can to treat MaCari or Lil Mama as we affectionately call her, as normal as possible. They celebrate the small accomplishments like when MaCari rolled over the first time or clapped her hands, when she smiles it’s the biggest deal in the world!!! We celebrated MaCari’s first birthday in style with 75 of her closest friends and family in attendance. Grandparents flew in from out of town, cousins we never even met before came out to celebrate this momentous occasion. MaCari is now 20 months old and she is still growing and thriving and fighting every day. She smiles and claps and sits up (with a little help of course). Lil Mama loves to watch her Baby Einstein and play with her feet, her eyes light up when her mommy and daddy walk in the room; it’s the best feeling in the world. Lil Mama has given us a few scares, with doctors telling her parents they had to “make the hard decision” and “your daughter won’t make it much longer” but Lil Mama has other plans and God has other plans for her as well. We continue to pray and put our faith in God.

MaCari's Update

MaCari was recently released from Children's Hospital for pneumonia. She lost a little weight but other than that she's doing just great! She has 3 teeth now and LOVES to show them off with that beautiful smile of hers!

MaCari turns 2!!!

March 10, 2010 MaCari celebrated her 2nd Birthday!

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:24-16

Little update on Miss MaCari. Miss MaCari is now sitting up on her own for long periods of time. It took my girl 2 years but guess what she's doing it on her own and we are so proud of her.

My precious MaCari, you constantly remind me to appreciate the small things. Like our playing "Patty Cake"and "This Lil Piggy" with your toes. You love those toes. Seeing the excitement on your face when you turn the page in your Bible as we read. Oh! can't forget our daily stretches. Wow! that feels good. MaCari you have proven the word of God to be true. With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible Matthew 19:26. MaCari I thank God for every moment we share and look forward to many many more. I love you, my beautiful granddaughter, and we will keep up the fight.
I continue to pray for the day when I hear you speak your first word and take your first step ( lets do it together).

MaCari, You are amazing! You have brought so much love into the lives of those around you. You have been blessed with great parents, but most of all they have been blessed with an angel and a warrior. Every single day is a testimony. God is so good! We witness your strength and we get stronger. We see your smile and hear your laughter and our problems are suddenly a thing of the past. Thank you for the lessons and the love MaCari.

God has truly sent an angel amongst us. If I have never seen one of God's miracles before I see one now in you, Cari Bear. You have truly been a blessing for me and because my grandbaby paved the way I am able to give you that tender loving care that Lyric taught me. God has also shown us all that your destiny lies in HIS hand and HIS alone. MaCari you are that one that HE will show HIS greatest. I LOVE YOU CARI. May God continue to keep and bless you.
